I’m at a lost on how to get started my ex is unreliable and I never want to depend on child support which is not much. I need a starting point.

I'm not sure where you are, so I will have to be generic. Here's what I want you to do.

1. Take stock of where you are right now.

2. Decide where you want to go, and what you need to accomplish.

3. Write out the action steps to get there.

Don't limit yourself in any way. Simply work on each step in the process. One step at a time.
